This position will oversee transfer credit evaluation to ensure accurate equivalencies of external college/university work and other forms of college applicable credit. To review applications for admission to undergraduate studies. To identify and resolve issues related to processing admission and financial aid utilizing a variety of reporting tools. ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Maintains knowledge and understanding of university academic functions and policies, transfer articulation, admission, financial aid and graduation requirements. Maintains confidentiality of student records as required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). • Researches the accreditation, grading system, course level and degree program contexts for each institution from which a domestic course is being evaluated. • Judges transfer equivalency for each course and determines UAB equivalency. • Maintains current and historical knowledge of the interpretation and application of credential evaluation policies and practices. Provides interpretation of academic regulations and requirements for students, faculty, staff and advisors as they pertain to transfer coursework. • Collaborates with departments on the applicability of study abroad credits to UAB degree programs. Refers students and staff for questions regarding admissions, financial aid, graduation, requests for exception, academic petitions and other support services. • Reviews and evaluates applications for incoming freshmen, transfers, former UAB students, post baccalaureate students and non-degree seeking students. • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may not substitute for education requirement. The ideal candidate must have confidence and skill with large databases and student records, as well as demonstrated experience with a student information system; Banner preferred. Must have strong customer service skills as well as strong verbal, written, and computer skills. Must also be attentive to detail, able to multitask, think critically, analyze and organize data. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
