East Tennessee State University is a major, public, comprehensive university with broad undergraduate, master’s, professional and doctoral programs. The university is comprised of 11 colleges and schools that currently enroll in excess of 14,600 students. It is located in Johnson City, Tennessee, a vibrant community in the “Tri-Cities” region (with an MSA population in excess of 500,000). The Director of Undergraduate Admissions, reporting to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Services, is responsible for providing leadership in recruitment and admission of all domestic and international undergraduate student populations (including freshmen, transfer, etc.). She or he is responsible for • Pursuing best practices in a comprehensive, integrated and data driven recruitment, admissions and enrollment plan, • Pursuing strategies directed toward the social goals of equity, diversity, and inclusion, • Meeting the challenges of an aggressive growth agenda that underlies the University’s Strategic Plan (2016-2026), • Providing proactive, student centered, and agile leadership that reflects the capabilities of state-of-the-art CRM and application processing systems. A strategic, highly collaborative and dynamic leader will plan and lead a broad based undergraduate admissions program that recruits and admits highly qualified undergraduate students. The Director manages all recruitment activities in the Office of Admissions for undergraduate students; supervises staff, processing and acceptance of all undergraduate admission and readmission applications; and, maintains responsibility for the evaluation and posting of transfer credit. Requirements include: •Exceptional skills in the following areas: team-building, planning, market review, data analysis, staff training, management, supervision, leadership, budget and customer service. •Comprehensive skills and integrity to think strategically and facilitate task/goal accomplishment in a time-sensitive environment while keeping both the big picture and operational details in mind. •Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to contribute to collaborative problem-solving. Knowledge of current strategies for marketing, publications, social media, and online tools for recruitment. •Knowledge of strategies for recruitment of underrepresented students and a commitment to diversity. •Commitment to pursuing collaborative initiatives within Enrollment Services and to reaching out and being responsive to both academic units and to administrative and support units such as student affairs, equity and diversity, continuing studies and academic outreach, adult commuter and transfer services, athletics, international programs, etc. •Commitment to working with others (e.g., other University offices, high schools, and community colleges) to establish and pursue effective strategies or comprehensive avenues to access that include growing dual admissions, dual enrollment, reverse transfer, etc. •Familiarity with issues facing public higher education. •Knowledge of current technologically sophisticated student information systems, associated report writing systems and tools, and skills required to develop reports or make presentations for various audiences. Secondary Functions: Some evening, weekend and travel required. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications • Master’s degree or above with a record of progressive leadership experience in admissions and/or enrollment services from a regionally accredited institution. • Five years of progressively responsible experience preferably at a medium to large public or private institution. • A valid driver’s license is required.
